What is the Fable 4 release date? Fable was finally revealed at the Xbox and Bethesda Showcase a few years back, but details about the long-awaited sequel have been thin on the ground following that announcement. But don’t despair, young chicken chaser – we do have some details that we can share ahead of the Fable 4 release date, especially after the follow-up trailer revealed at the Xbox Games Showcase this year.
For one thing, we know Fable 4 is currently being developed by Playground Games, the studio behind the Forza Horizon series. We also know that it won’t be called Fable 4 at all. Fable 4 release date rumors
Our best estimate on the Fable 4 release date is late 2024, though there has been no official confirmation as of yet.
We would expect to see it around October, as this is when previous installments in the series have launched. It’s due to release on PC and Xbox Series X/S and will be available to play on Xbox Game Pass on day one.
Why do we think this? Well, Xbox head Phil Spencer confirmed in an interview back in 2021 that Fable 4 will be out before the Elder Scrolls 6 release date, but that doesn’t give us much to go on for the time being. That being said, Spencer recently suggested Elder Scrolls 6 may not launch until 2028 at the earliest… However, seeing as we’ve only seen two teaser trailers, we’ll take the joy of just knowing a sequel to one of the best PC games is still in development for now.
Fable 4 trailers
Fable 4 kicked off the Xbox Games Showcase with a teaser trailer starring actor and comedian Richard Ayaode as Dave, the innovative giant gardener who takes a dim view of heroes and their search for glory. While we only got to see a very brief glimpse of moment-to-moment gameplay – including a group of bandits receiving a dose of the hero treatment in close combat – the trailer is confirmed to be in-game footage. We have to admit, Albion’s looking pretty gorgeous these days. The trailer is also replete with Fable humor, from its wry retelling of Jack and the Beanstalk to the indignant squawk of a chicken being punted into the sky.
The initial Fable 4 announcement trailer debuted as part of the Xbox and Bethesda 2020 showcase. It starts with a fairy flying between objects like swords and skulls in a magical forest to the soothing voice of a British narrator. It’s very Fable in its humor, right up to the moment a large toad devours the fairy and it pans above the treetops to a view of Bowerstone.

This leads us to Fable 4’s setting. In the announcement trailer, we spy a town that resembles Bowerstone in the background – a key Fable location. Bowerstone does, however, seem to be a lot bigger in the trailer than in past games. The town seems to sprawl between the hilltops, which suggests much bigger environments and possibly an even larger open world than we’ve seen before.
Fable 4 development
Tom Gaulton, lead engineer at Playground Games, revealed on Twitter that he has been working on Fable for four years. A lot of games with this much development time typically show more than a teaser trailer, but it appears Playground Games wants to take things slow. Sadly, this doesn’t tell us anything about when we should expect the game to launch.

We also see a glint of the Heroes Guild seal crest on the aforementioned sword’s hilt, which could mean the Heroes Guild could well feature again. Fable fans aren’t strangers to the Guild. Its distinctive icon appears around Albion, for example on Hero Hill in Fable 2, and the guild itself first appeared in the first Fable. The Guild seal, which also bears the icon, is also famous for letting you fast travel around the open world, as well as allowing you to talk to the Guild Master in the original Fable (remember, “Hero, your will energy is low”?) and Theresa in Fable 2 and 3.
We’re glad to see the steampunk setting dwindle behind Fable’s new stunning vistas and hope for a more mythological story that definitely matches up to the trailer’s fairy character and the forests’ strange fauna and flora in the giant mushrooms and prancing fish. We also hoping for a return of trolls, nymphs, and hobbes while we’re at it.
