When is the AMD Radeon RX 7800 XT release date? Following its official announcement, we don’t have long to wait for the AMD Radeon RX 7800 XT to hit store shelves. In the meantime, there’s plenty of information to digest on team red’s long overdue graphics card.

The RX 7800 XT finds itself plugging the midrange gap, alongside the AMD Radeon RX 7700 XT, that the AMD RDNA 3 microarchitecture has sorely lacked for some time. Now, with these new GPUs in tow, team red is gunning for the best graphics card crown across all performance and price points.

With the launch of the RX 7800 XT, the Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 finally has a potentially worthy adversary. Even without the potential upscaling powers of AMD FSR 3, this pixel pusher has plenty of perks that could see it handily outpace its opponent.

To help you digest all the details of team red’s long overdue but welcome graphics card, here’s everything we know about the AMD Radeon RX 7800 XT.

When is the AMD Radeon RX 7800 XT release date?

The AMD Radeon RX 7800 XT release date is September 6, as confirmed by AMD during Gamescom 2023. It will launch simultaneously with the AMD Radeon RX 7700 XT.

Turns out the AMD Gamescom announcements teased by AMD’s senior vice president & general manager of Radeon, Scott Herkelman, were in fact the RX 7800 XT and 7700 XT. Not that there was much room for doubt after placeholder RDNA 3 GPUs were spotted in the ASRock booth.

What is the AMD Radeon RX 7800 XT price?

The AMD Radeon RX 7700 XT price is $499, as confirmed by AMD during Gamescom 2023. Reference models will be available, as well as custom coolers from AIB partners.

Back in 2020, the AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT arrived on the scene with a $649 price, meaning the RX 7800 XT is a whopping $150 cheaper than its predecessor.

What are the AMD Radeon RX 7800 XT specs?

The AMD Radeon RX 7800 XT specs were confirmed at the AMD Gaming Festival during Gamescom 2023. It boasts some generational improvements like clock speeds, along with some strange regressions in stream processor count.

AMD Radeon RX 7800 XT specs
GPU Navi 32 (RDNA 3)
Stream processors 3,840
Compute Units 60
Ray accelerators 60 (2nd Gen.)
Game clock 2,124MHz
Boost clock Up to 2,430MHz
VRAM 16GB GDDR6
Bus width 256-bit
TDP 263W

Comparing the RX 7800 XT to its predecessor, the AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT, reveals some strange generational differences. While they each share 16GB of GDDR6 VRAM on a 256-bit bus, the RDNA 3 GPU strangely has less stream processors, ray accelerators, and compute units. That said, the ones on the RX 7800 XT are more powerful.

AMD has managed to tame the power draw of the RX 7800 XT versus the 6800 XT, bringing TDP down from 300W to 263W. Clock speeds are also faster, generationally speaking.

AMD Radeon RX 7800 XT benchmarks

AMD Radeon RX 7800 XT benchmarks

According to internal AMD Radeon RX 7800 XT benchmarks, the GPU outperforms its closest rival by up to 23% at 1440p at max settings in games such as Cyberpunk 2077.

AMD shared frame rate data recorded on the RX 7800 XT during its Gamescom reveal, painting the pixel pusher as a 1440p champion. However, it appears that it will fall behind in ray tracing workloads, as is typical of Radeon graphics cards.
