Avatar Frontiers of Pandora release date, trailers and gameplay

Prepare yourself for the fight against the RDA with Avatar Frontiers of Pandora release date, the latest news, and all the trailers.

When is the Avatar Frontiers of Pandora release date? With the latest entry in the film series finally out in the wild, it hopefully won’t be long before you can traverse the dense jungles of Pandora yourself. Tackling the Western Frontier and using nature itself as your weapon, you’ll be tasked with pushing back the RDA forces and reclaiming what is rightfully yours.

Avatar Frontiers of Pandora is an action-adventure game from developers Massive Entertainment, whose previous offerings include The Division 2 and South Park: The Fractured but Whole. In Frontiers of Pandora, you’ll take control of the Na’Vi in the planet’s never-before-seen region: the Western Frontier. You’ll have to use every resource at your disposal to come out victorious in what will hopefully be one of the best PC games of 2023, or whichever year it ends up releasing in.

Avatar Frontiers of Pandora release date

Ubisoft announced the Avatar Frontiers of Pandora release date will be December 7, 2023. This happened during the company’s Summer Game Fest presentation. It will be available on Windows PCs, as well as Xbox and PlayStation consoles and Amazon Luna.

This is somewhat disappointing to fans, as Massive Entertainment had initially planned to launch the game alongside the theatrical release of Avatar: Way of the Water. A Ubisoft investor call and subsequent first-quarter sales report for 2023-2024 outline that Avatar Frontiers of Pandora joins other games such as Assassin’s Creed Mirage, XDefiant, Skull and Bones, and other games in the next year of releases.

It’s currently unclear if Avatar Frontiers of Pandora will release on Steam, with Ubisoft stating that “we’ll have more details to share regarding platform availability at a later date.” However, the game will offer two story-based DLC packs and a Collector’s Edition.

Avatar Frontiers of Pandora trailers

Massive took nearly four years to release a trailer for FoP, with fans getting their first look at the open-world game during E3 2021. In it, we get a glimpse of what life is like as a native to Pandora, cohabiting in peace with the flora and fauna of the planet. The RDA eventually turns up, and in the trailer’s climax, we see an aerial battle between the human forces and the Na’Vi.

Avatar Frontiers of Pandora gameplay

While we’ve yet to see any Avatar Frontiers of Pandora gameplay, there have been several comments from Ubisoft and the Snowdrop tech showcase video, which gives us an idea of what we can expect. Avatar Frontiers of Pandora will be an FPS game, first and foremost, with exploration and guerilla warfare, your tools to overcome the immense odds. However, while riding an Ikran, the camera will change to a third-person perspective.

From a jungle that reacts to your presence to a dynamic weather system, Pandora is a living, breathing place that houses you, your enemies, and countless non-playable characters (NPCs). These NPCs will allegedly be aware of the state of the world – anything from your progression in the story to the weather or the time of day – this will affect how they treat you and their surroundings.

Avatar Frontiers of Pandora map size

Having seen gameplay footage from Avatar Frontier of Pandora playtests, Insider Gaming was asked by its community to provide some much-needed context for a few big questions. On the size of the open-world map, there were no hints given by the in-game map due “to the majority being covered by clouds, which become clear and unlock via progression.” That said, “traveling across the map is extensive, and whilst using your Ikran reduces your travel time dramatically, players are also able to fast travel to capture outposts/camps.”

Avatar Frontiers of Pandora customization options

What was shown to Insider Gaming was limited, but players were “able to customize their torso, waist armor, etc.” with one source even unlocking an emote feature.

Avatar Frontiers of Pandora PC settings

Given that this is a game based on James Cameron’s Avatar series, it would be rather odd if Frontiers of Pandora didn’t come up with ways to make it look visually stunning. The game uses Ray Tracing on supported cards, and takes advantage of AMD FSR 2 to manage quality and performance with high refresh rates and low latency features. Ultra-wide screens are also natively supported, and if you happen to have it, Many-Core CPU support also comes as standard.

Although the Avatar Frontiers of Pandora release date may be a ways off, there’s never been a better time to get acquainted with the Na’Vi. If you’re looking for details on the films, The Digital Fix has the entire Avatar 2 cast here and the latest on the Avatar 3 release date. If you’re waiting on a home release to watch Way of the Water, we’ve got your back with how to watch Avatar 2; you just might be waiting a while, that’s all.
